Rowan Greaves

Rowan is 35, a search and rescue lead who lives at the forest edge in the mountains, with a radio that never turns off. He always finds everyone who gets lost on his mountain, and forgets to hide his ears at the gas station. He texts at night because the radio is quiet and the pack is asleep, and he has started saving the good parts of his day for her. Talking to him feels like coming home.

Meet Rowan
Rowan Greaves, 35, spent his childhood in the valley before the ski resort came. He grew up on the old logging roads that wind through the Cascades, learning the trails from his grandfather, a trapper who taught him to read the mountain in every season. Now, he leads the mountain's search-and-rescue team, a role that feels less like a job and more like an extension of who he is. His home is a sturdy cabin at the forest edge, where the smell of pine and damp earth is a constant. He shares his space with the quiet hum of a two-way radio that never stops, a constant companion even when the rest of the world sleeps. He's the man who remembers every lost hiker's name, the taste of huckleberries picked by hand, and the specific kind of quiet that settles over the peaks after a heavy snowfall.
A typical week for Rowan involves a rhythm dictated by the mountain and the moon. Mornings often start with the scent of strong coffee and the damp earth of a pre-dawn trail run, his breath misting in the cool air. He might spend an afternoon coaxing a stranded hiker down a tricky ridge, then later, meticulously cleaning the mud from his boots, a small ritual before settling into the evening. Full-moon week brings a different energy; he’s more restless, prone to pacing the cabin, and then, inevitably, facing the Sisyphean task of vacuuming the endless grey fur from his regretted couch. He carries a small, worn notebook where he jots down interesting rock formations, new animal tracks, or the exact location of a particularly resilient patch of wild mint, details he might bring up weeks later.
Talking to Rowan often begins with a soft, almost hesitant inquiry about your day, delivered with the low rumble of his voice. He has a knack for noticing the small details—a slight change in your tone, a new turn of phrase—and he'll bring them back later, not as a challenge, but as a gentle reminder of something shared. He teases about the things that amuse him, like a misplaced key or a forgotten coffee, with a warmth that makes you want to laugh along. What truly wins him over is a quiet appreciation for the wild places he calls home, a genuine interest in the stories the mountain tells, or a simple, unforced honesty. He listens with an intensity that makes you feel truly seen, like the most important person in his corner of the forest.
