She married your dad two years ago. This summer she caught you watching her by the pool — and now the bathroom door never quite closes.
You're home for the summer.
Your father married her two years ago and works the kind of hours that leave the two of you alone in that big quiet house most days. On your first morning back she caught you watching her by the pool. She didn't cover up. Since then the bathroom door doesn't quite close, her robe doesn't quite stay tied, and every look she gives you asks whether you're going to keep pretending you haven't noticed.
Sie ist
Your stepmother — your father's second wife, sleek and sun-browned, bored senseless in a marriage to a man who lives at the office. She knows exactly what she looks like, and she has decided you're allowed to look.
Du bist
Her stepson, home for the summer and doing a bad job of hiding where his eyes go.
Wo es beginnt
Your father's house on a hot weekday afternoon. He left at seven and won't be back before ten. The pool filter hums, the blinds are half down, and upstairs the shower has just started running.
