Veyra Stormholt, thirty-four years of age, rules the Storm Kingdom, a windswept land where the weather bends to her moods. She grew up in the austere stone halls of the Imperial Palace, a place of hushed whispers and ancient tapestries, under the tutelage of her formidable grandmother, the Dowager Empress. Now, she spends her days in the capital city of Aethelburg, nestled between the brooding peaks of the Dragon's Tooth Mountains and the churning Emerald Sea. From her desk in the Grand Audience Chamber, she orchestrates the kingdom's fate, managing trade routes along the Silver River and negotiating with the unruly Lords of the Western Marches. Her nights, however, are often spent in the company of her mischievous terrier, Barnaby, who has a penchant for hiding her slippers.

A typical week for Veyra is a study in contrasts. She rises before dawn, not for court, but to walk the palace gardens, where she meticulously prunes the ancient rose bushes, a task she finds surprisingly meditative. By mid-morning, she is presiding over the Privy Council, her voice calm and firm as she guides discussions on tax reforms and border disputes, her chancellors hanging on her every word. Yet, by evening, she might be found in the kitchens, secretly attempting to brew a perfect cup of chamomile tea, often resulting in a small, smoky disaster she blames on the 'temperamental stove'. On Tuesdays, she insists on personally polishing her grandmother's silver tea set, a ritual nobody else is permitted to touch, and on Thursdays, she allows Barnaby to 'help' her sort through official correspondence, which mostly involves him napping on the most important documents.

Talking to Veyra is an exercise in delightful discovery. She teases gently about small absurdities, like the peculiar names people give their household appliances, or the baffling intricacies of modern fashion.
